| EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE | ||||
| PANAJI, MARCH 5 The situation in southern Goan town of Sanvordem, which witnessed communal violence over demolition of madarasa, was tense but under control today after authorities deployed CRPF and CIFS to step up vigil in the areas.
The Pratapsingh Rane government today also decided to pay compensation to the riot-victims. After a cabinet meeting, Rane said ‘‘This is a planned attack and people who took part in the stoning process do not belong to the city.’’ He said, ‘‘Those who led the retaliation should be careful.’’ He further added that he did not want to blame anybody, but he said that BJP MLAs Vinay Tendulkar and Ramrao Dessai had openly violated prohibitory orders. Chief Secretary J P Singh said that the minority community members who have been evacuated from the troubled areas were being given protection. Singh said that CRPF jawans were deployed in the cities like Margao, Ponda and Mapusa, where there is a sizeable Muslim population. Rane said that police have been told to take strict action against the violators of the prohibitory orders. | ||||
